Update 1 Dec
A home game against our old rivals Swindon Village Bowmen . The objective today was to play in their half so we started with a 3-4-1-2 formation , and the Bowmen started stronger. However towards the end of the 1st half we started to knock the ball around almost taking the lead when a nice move led to Hubert’s long range shot hitting the bar. In the 2nd half the game became a little niggly to say the least. George clean through wiped out by the last man keeper decision Free kick no booking. We then managed to take the lead again the keeper bringing George down , calmly tucked home by Toby . We then picked up a yellow with Ethan retalliating to a rough challenge from behind and they managed to scrape an equaliser from a corner followed by a booking for Ollie . At this point the Bowmen really started to kick anything in green but we generally stayed calm and continued to create good chances. Towards the end the Bowmen found the net again but correctly called offside so 1-1 in the end . A reflection of the game was the amount of times their keeper was called into action , ours had a relativley quiet afternoon , we really should have won the game . Nice to see Luke back in action ( very tidy ) and great to see our team spirit shine through , we looked after each other.
See you Tuesday
Update 24 Nov
The rearranged County Cup game away at Frampton today on a pitch that was underwater last week! The pitch was pretty boggy today and just about playable , Frampton started well and took the lead after 10 mins after Ollie saved ( Oscar injured today) and we reacted slowly to the rebound . We then started to play some nice football going forwards and Toby ran through to take a shot well saved and George following up 1-1 . We should really have gone infront with some clear chances from open play and corners but 1-1- at half time . In the 2nd half we never really got going much and Frampton scored an uncontested header from a corner then as we pushed forward they scored a 3rd from long range . I think they were just a little stronger than us in the conditions, bring on the drier pitches.
Thanks to Ollie for playing in goal today at short notice , did really well.
Only 3 games now before Christmas
1 Dec Swindon Village
8 Dec Charlton Rovers Blues
15 Dec GVR Chalford
See you Tuesday
Update 3 Nov
A home game today against a team we always have a close game with Churchdown Panthers. In the 1st half we played really well and really should have scored a few goals , So their keeper handles the ball outside the penalty area when George is clean through, verdict free kick only. In a similar move a great pass rom Luca inside the full back or Doris to round the keeper and finish well from a tight angle , we then had a clear handball penalty turned down and somehow Churchdown managed to scramble an equaliser 1-1 at Half time. In the 2nd half Churchdown pushed us back , won a penalty that was skied but got 2-1 infront , we then had a bit of agro after a late challenge on Hubert , 2 yellows for them 1 for us ( Hubert)., chasing the game we changed shape from 433 to 343 and Churchdown then got a 3rd!. So with 10 mins to go we continued to play grabbing a 2nd goal with a George header from Luca’s corner and then in stoppage time we forced 3 corners , the last one Luca’s corner flicked on by Oscar (up for the corner ) and poked over the line by George so 3-3 in the end . Phew!
See you Tuesday
Update 20 Oct
A cup game today against table topping Longlevens who had already beaten us 5-0 earlier in the season. We started the game well and created a few half chances but conceded following a cross into our box along the floor that we failed to clear and then conceded a 2nd as we gave away a free kick on the edge of our box that they managed to squeeze around the wall. Chasing the game we decided to change shape from 442 to 343 and enjoyed some good possession deservedly scoring following a Luca through ball for Toby to skip a defender and fire home . Despite our best efforts we couldn’t force an equaliser and Longlevens fired in a 3rd following a cross cleanly headed home. so 3-1 in the end . We did try a few different things today that will help us in future games , we’re still integrating a few new players and others returning from injury . Training on Tuesday 22nd as normal ( Pete will run the session as Oscar and I are up the Blues!) , no game next weekend and no training on Tuesday 29th ( Half term week) . Next game is 3rd November at home v Churchdown.
Update 13 Oct
An away game at Bournside against Barometrics today . It’s always a close game against these guys and so it proved again today. With 6 players unavailable we went with the 13 available. We started the game really well and were deservedly awarded a penalty when George was brought down , up stepped Doris whose shot was well saved . We continued to play well and a pass down our left from Leo picked up by George to round a defender and slot home 1-0 at half time . In the 2nd half it was pretty even , both teams having chances , ironically their player who had 10 mins in the sin bin came back on and scored an equaliser , good finish high into our net . Then despite creating more chances we didn’t clear our lines giving them the opportunity to take a free shot and score a winner .
So overall we played well today however we must be better playing on the floor going forwards and we need to improve our defensive decision making .
See you Tuesday
Update 6 Oct
A cup game today against Charlton Rovers Blues. We started the game well and were encamped in the opposition half for the 1st 20 mins at least . After Toby hit the bar with a long range shot we started to convert our chances , Toby’s corner nodded in by George , some good play down the left Kieron to George who crossed back to Kieron to finish with a deflected shot from the edge of the area . CR managed to get a goal back through a bit of indecision following a throw in but we then won a penalty with George going down, George taking the penalty saved but Toby on the rebound 3-1 at half time .
In the 2nd half we scored another good goal , Toby’s cross being cleared to Kieron who smashed home left footed from the edge of the area . To be fair CR tried hard and pushed us back for a while and scored again 4-2 but we never looked in too much trouble and a Luca free kick from our right was partially cleared for Kieron to finish and complete his 1st Hat Trick and final score 5-2.
Good team peformance, into the hat for the next round and see you Tuesday
Update 29 Sep
A home game today against a team we always have a close game against Abbeymead Yellows.
Wilh the luxury of 15 players available today we were optimistic ( but not Paul who had to referee!) . The first half was a close affair , we had the better chances through George and Leo but 0-0 at half time . In the 2nd half we started brightly and created numerous chances , finally rewarded when George raced clear of the defence to be sythed down , penalty and calmly slotted home by Toby. We continued to press but were sloppy from a free kick allowing an unchallenged header to loop into out net 1-1 . In the dying seconds Luca managed to fet the ball into the net but during the run from George the ball had just about gone out before crossing so disallowed.
Overall we played some nice football today, some nice debuts from Joel,Reece and Toby and nice to see George back at Cleeve Colts. Great play from Freds at left back and and outstanding midfield display from Hubert, well done.
And thanks Jonny and Pete for managing the team.
Things to work on , defending set pieces and decision making in the final third
This team is on the rise , believe me !
Training on Tuesday is 8.30- 9.30 ON THE CLEEVE ASTRO
See you there
Update 22 Sep
Todays game at Broadwell postponed due ti injury crisis
Update 15 Sep
A home game today against Longlevens who beat Swindon Village 11-1 last week . Not ideal for a squad in the middle of an injury crisis with no less than 7 out of our squad of 16 missing through injury before KO. Daryl the U16s manager kindly allowed us to use 2 of his players (Ollie and Daniel) so at least we had 11 for KO , thanks Chaps .
Onto the game , not a great start as we fell behind early on but we showed lots of energy and with Ethan further injuing his back ( well done for playing on) we were down to 10 men for a while but managed to get to half time 2-0 down.
In the 2nd half we tired a little but never gave in and could have scored a couple ourselves. so 5-0 im the end .
That said some really good performances today , Hubert tidy and agressive in midfield , Olly T composed at the back(m even with a yellow card) , Ricky busy up front . Freds tearing down the wing, steady debut from Doris and I suppose some good saves from Oscar,
Once we get all our players fit and all our new signings eligible we will be in good shape,
Training as normal on Tuesday , I wont be there myself as working away.
Update 8 Sept
First game of the season today against Slimbridge ( but a different Slimbridge to the ones we played before)
With only 12 players available it was always going to be tough ,and we fell behind early on . our plan not helped by Owen going off injured with a twisted ankle.
We dug in and some good defensive play kept us in the game until 35 mins when they scored 2 quick goals to be up 3-0 ant half time .
We were struggling with Injuries so injured Luke went in goal and Harry, Luca and Oscar soldiered through. We conceded 4 second half goals against a decent team to lose 7-0 .
There were some results much worse than our today , take a look at the Full time website !
We will be fine when we get all our squad available..
See you on Tuesday
