BC Colts U16 Girls

Season 2018-19

Training Every Wednesday on Winchcombe School – 7.30pm Start

29th Aug – Friendly – Home – Cleeve Colts 12 – 0 Gloucester City (Leonie 10, Ella & Georgia)

Squad: Bella, Morgan, Chelsea, Izzy, Hannah, Ella, Izzi, Emily D, Jemma, Leonie, Georgia, Charlotte

First game back after the summer break and the girls seemed glad to be back (I am sure the sunny evening helped), both us and Gloucester City were missing a number of players but it was good to get a friendly arranged and get back on the pitch. We had a couple of new girls playing for the first time and both played very well on their debuts…..well done Ella & Charlotte. There was nice football played and I am sure there is a bit to work on as well, but all in all a good performance and a big thanks to Gloucester for coming over a giving us a game.

1st Sept – Friendly – Home – Cleeve Colts 11 – 2 Tower Hill (Leonie 6, Belle 4 & Izzi)

Squad: Izzy, Meg, Leonie, Morgan, Chelsea, Georgia, Hannah, Grace, Amy, Izzi, Belle, Jess, Jemma, Ella

Another pre-season friendly and it was good to welcome Tower Hill from Oxford who we have played on a few occasions. We were lucky enough to be able to play on Bishops Cleeve FC first team pitch and the girls enjoyed the experience. We made heavy weather of the first half and it was a scrappy 40 mins although we went in 4-2 up. The 2nd half was a distinct improvement and we played some much better football and ran out 11-2 winners although Tower Hill only had the bear 11 and they got tired on the big pitch as well as missing some of their key players.

9th Sept – Friendly – Home – Cleeve Colts 15 – 0 Ledbury Swifts (Leonie 9, Belle 5 & Izzi)

Squad: Amy, Ella, Izzy, Leonie, Hannah, Morgan, Grace, Izzi, Charlie, Belle, Meg, Emily, Ellie, Jemma

The last pre-season friendly before the season kicks off and another home fixture, this time against Ledbury. The friendlies are clearly getting the girls back into playing football after the break and they are improving from week to week. We played some good football throughout the game and Ledbury struggled to cope…….this was only their 3rd game on a 11 a side pitch. Again, Leonie and Belle linked up well and the midfield were dominant, the defence looked solid enough. Time for some league games!

16th Sept – League – Home – Forest of Dean 0 – 24 Cleeve Colts (Leonie 11, Belle, 4, Izzi 3, Ella 2, Jemma 2, Hannah, Georgia)

Squad: Meg, Jemma, Charlotte, Hannah, Amy, Georgia, Charlie, Izzi, Ella, Leonie, Morgan, Chelsea, Belle, Izzy

Our first league game of the season and we were away to the Forest of Dean which is a long drive but always a good venue as they play at Ellwood FC….very nice pitch and location. Unfortunately for FOD, they had lost a couple of their key players to illness on the morning so they had a relatively inexperienced team but they battled right to the end despite the score line. It sounds strange looking at the score but we were quite poor in the first half and although we dominated possession we missed quite a few chances and did not play as well as we can. Leonie got us off to a quick start with a goal in the 1st minute after rounding the goalie, Izzi made it two after 12 mins and after missing quite a few chances we made it three from Leonie on 27 mins. Ella got her first league goal for us with a good left foot strike on 29 and Belle got her first on 34 and the first half scoring was completed with Leonie getting her hat trick just before half time…..6-0 at half time. After a constructive half time team talk the girls really got going and played some very good football in the 2nd half and it was great to have 7 different goalscorers in the end. The two notable goals in the 2nd half was another great strike from 25 yards from Ella and a fine finish in the top corner from Leonie although the goal of the day would have been Leonie’s strike that looked destined for the top corner before clipping the bar. A good performance from the whole squad and a good start to the season.

23rd Sept – League – Away – Rodborough 0 – 6 Cleeve Colts (Leonie 4 & Belle 2)

Squad: Izzy, Jess, Meg, Belle, Ella, Izzi, Hannah, Morgan, Chelsea, Leonie, Grace, Emily, Ellie, Amy

Another away game today against Rodborough who we always have good games against and this was no different. We got off to a slow start and for the first 15 mins it was a relatively even game with chances at both ends before we took the lead through Leonie. It took another 20 mins before we hit the net again with a fine finish from Leonie to make it 2-0 at half time. We knew we had to get better in the 2nd half and thankfully we did and further goals from Leonie on 43 & 60 along with a brace from Belle on 48 & 63 sealed the victory in na hard fought contest.

30th Sept – League – Home – Cleeve Colts 5 – 3 Hereford Lads Club (Belle 3 & Leonie 2)

Squad: Leonie, Emily, Jemma, Georgia, Ellie, Amy, Chelsea, Morgan, Belle, Izzi, Jess, Meg, Grace, Izzy

Our first home league game of the season today against a bit of an unknown in Hereford Lads Club, they are a new team into our league this season and have not been beaten in the Herefordshire League for 3 years so clearly going to be a real challenge. We needed to get off to a quick start but it wasn’t to be and Hereford looked very good in the early stages and deservedly took the lead on 6 mins after a bit of a goalmouth scramble. The goal seemed to spark some life into the girls and only 2 minutes later Belle equalised but the lead was short lived as Hereford scored direct from a free kick on 16 mins to make it 1-2. Belle again equalised on 24 mins to make it 2-2 and then Leonie scored two very similar goals running through one on one with the keeper and slotting them home on 26 & 29 mins to make it 4-2 at half time. We knew the next goal would be important as the 2nd half started and Hereford got it to make it 4-3. The game was pretty even afar that until Belle got her hat trick on 61 mins to get the two goal lead back. The next 20 mins or so was very even with chances at both ends but the final whistle went with a 5-3 victory. This was a really good game with not much in it between both teams.

7th Oct – League – Away – Gloucester City 1 – 15 Cleeve Colts (Leonie 9, Belle 2, Emily 2, Georgia, Jess)

Squad: Izzi, Belle, Meg, Morgan, Lenie, Chelsea, Jemma, Jess, Georgia, Emily, Grace, Cara, Amy, Charlotte

Another away game and this time an afternoon kick off against Gloucester City. The girls were clearly suited to a 2pm kick off (maybe they were all fully awake by then) as they hit the ground running and played some nice football all afternoon leaving it very difficult for Gloucester to get into the game. Leonie was enjoying herself and scored 5 first half goals along with Belle getting 2 and Georgia getting on the scoresheet. Gloucester continued to fight and managed a goal just into the 2nd half before Leonie got another 4, Emily got 2 including a nice finish from outside the area and Jess got her first league goal of the season. This was an impressive performance playing probably the best football of the season so far.

14th Oct – Home – Cleeve Colts 4 – 2 Cheltenham Town (Belle 3 & Leonie)

Squad: Izzy, Morgan, Chelsea, Hannah, Emily, Jess, Leonie, Jemma, Izzi, Ella, Belle, Ellie, Amy, Georgia

Everybody was saying we needed some rain following the very dry conditions and we certainly got some this morning, both Chris and I were both soaked before we have finished putting the nets up. The pitch was in good condition though and with a slick playing surface this was always going to be a good game against our neighbours Cheltenham Town. Both teams went into the match with an 100% record and again we got off to a slow start with CT playing the better football and taking the lead after 7 mins with an excellent finish. We were finding hard to get into the game playing against the wind first half but on 15 mins Leonie played a lovely through ball to Belle who cooly slotted it home to make it 1-1. This only lasted 6 mins before Cheltenham hoisted a long ball forward that was dipping and swirling in the wind to deceive Ellie and ended up in the back of the net. To be fair to the girls they dug deep and after a goal mouth scramble Belle slotted the equaliser home on 28 mins and it stayed this way until half time….2-2. We needed to play better in the 2nd half and with the wind in our favour we took the lead with a goal from Leonie on 51 mins followed by Belle’s hat trick on 62 mins. Cheltenham responded and had a few half chances but we defended very well and Ellie made a couple of good saves to keep the score to 4-2. This was a very similar game to the Hereford game where we went behind and had to battle but again the girls stepped up to snatch another victory and 3 important points. A very enjoyable game to watch and both teams played some good football in tricky conditions……..very little in it between both teams.
