BC Colts Rovers U16 Boys

Season 2018-19

Update 7 Apr

Last game of the season away at 3rd placed Lakeside . We started the game brightly and Lakeside couldn’t work out our 3-4-3 system as we created lots of chances the best probably Hubert hitting the left hand post after a good run and an Owen header from a corner well saved by the keeper. , against the play Lakeside worked a  1 on 1 down our right and scored . We then conceded a really scrappy goal after a backpass was miscontrolled by Oscar in goal and te forward tapped in the loose ball. In the 2nd half we decided to get the ball forward faster but again Lakeside broke away to score from long range 3-0 . We never gave in and a Glyn corner was headed in by Owen and ten a Hubert pass to Freds who went on a mazy run and with a bit of a deflection managed to score . Despite our best efforts we couldn’t force an equaliser so 3-2 in the end . The 3 goals we conceded were poor from a concentration viewpoint , eradicate the mistakes and we will be much better next season .

Training on the Field on Tuesday 6pm to 7.30

Update 30 Mar

Penultimate game today away at Barometrics . With  a strong squad of 15 we knew we would be competitive against these guys . I the first half we were much better than The Baros with some good approach play just falling short with over hit final balls. 0-0 at half time . In the 2nd half against the wind Baro managed to take the lead with a good shot from outside the area into the roof of the net. We changed shape from 5-4-1 to 4-5-1 but still couldn’t find a way through so for the last 15 mins we went to 3-4-3 and created a couple of excellent chances but could not find the net so 1-0 in the end . Overall it was a good performance today , we definitely deserved at least a point from the game but again we are sound defensively but when we had chances didn’t make the most of them .

One game to go . Lakeside away next Sunday

Training this week moves back to THE CLEEVE FIELD 6pm -7.30 , see you there

Update 17 Mar

Back to league action away at GVR Chalford  on a cold windy day . With a strong squad we started really well having a lot of possession and creating some good chances however we conceded from a really good strike from outside the area fo trail 1-0 at half time . In the 2nd half again we were playing well and a cross field pass from Kieron and a Leo shot was fumbled by the keeper for Leo to roll in the rebound. The favour was returned as a Leo cross field pass found Kieron who managed to get past one or 2 defenders and a deflected shot into the net .To be fair to Chalford they had a real push for the equaliser which they managed to find 2-2 in the end . Sorry I couldn’t use the subs today as much as I would have liked but I didn’t want to change things much as we were playing well.

If anyone deserved to win it was us , we played the better football and a real good effort.

Training on Tuesday will be taken by Jonny as I’m away (again!)

Update 24 Feb

Its been ages since our last game so back to a nice easy one away at 2nd placed Broadwell ( that place is a long way away!)  Having a few injuries and absentees we were down to a squad of 12 today that quickly became 11 as Charlie couldn’t move in the warm up following a bike crash! and with Owen running a little late following rugby we started with 10 ( Owen arrived soon after KO). We went 3-0 down within the 1st 15 mins but managed to swap things around a bit to hold that score until half time . In the 2nd half we actually played quite well and the central midfield 3 of Harry , Luca and Hubert were linking up really nicely with Glyn shouting the team on. Broadwell managed to score another 2  for a 5-0 final score but we were unlucky to have not scored one or two ourselves.  Today everyone put a shift in and worked really hard , Broadwell were just that bit stronger and clinical but overall after a long break I was really encouraged, Well done

thanks to Luca and Tom for taking a turn in goal today

Training on the astro as normal this Tuesday ( Jonny taking the session )  .

Update 20 Jan

Last home game of the season today against Swindon Village Bowmen . With a full squad and no ref it was up to Jonny to manage the team today. The 1st half was really tight with Swindon being slightly better , I n the 2nd half the game opened up with Swindon taking  the lead with a shot deflected in off Nathaniel after we failed to clear a corner . We never gave in and were rewarded with Zane giving chase to a ball down the centre and getting a shot away for an own goal off their defender . It was really competitive throughout , in the end we looked the more likely winners but I think a 1-1 draw was about right . Great effort from the whole squad against a decent team , well done , See you Tuesday.

Update 13 Jan

A league game against the team just below us in the table Churchdown panthers Reds . With a good squad of 14 we were hopeful of doing well. We started well but fell behind on the break. However a through ball from Owen and a chase down te centre between the goalkeeper , centre back and Ollie who managed to toe it home , 1-1. We then fell behind again 2-1 and failed to clear our lines on the stroke of halftime to fall 3-1 behind. In the 2nd half we had lots of possession and some great defending from Churchdown but we couldn’t force the ball home and they scored again to make it 4-1 . It was a harsh score but we didn’t take our chances when well on top .

Training on Tuesday as normal

Update 6 Jan

Back to league action today with an away match at Abbeymead Rovers Yellows. It was a really competitive game throughout and following an early booking for Charlie and a strict ref we had to be careful We managed to get into the lead in the first half following Glyn’s corner and a bit of a scramble with Owen managing to get the ball to Ollie to poke home . In the 2nd half Abbeymead had a real go at us throwing everything forwards . We changed from 442 to 541 to stem the tide but we always looked dangerous on the break and were rewarded when Zane never gave up on a through ball with the ball breaking to Hubert to fire home from 6 yards out. We then had another great chance with Harry hitting the bar from distance and Hubert volleying the rebound over . Again our defence stood firm and we broke down our right , Harry robbing the ball off the fullback and squaring for Luca to tap home.

We won 3-0 . There were a number of tests for us today with Tom and Owen going off injured but we reorganised ourselves and competed  throughout, everyone did their job. There were a number of outstanding performances today, and it would be wrong if I didn’t mention  Oscar’s brilliant keeping and clean sheet. Well done everyone , great squad effort

See you Tuesday

Update 16 Dec

A league game at home v Cheltenham Civil Service Reds a team we lost to narrowly back in September. On a boggy pitch it was important we had subs today so with a squad of 15 good news. The game itself was a bit of a battle in the mud with Cheltenham managing to take an early lead following a goalmouth scramble . it was much the same in the 2nd half , a great shot from Luke was tipped over then a key moment as Charlie handles the ball and we concede a penalty, fortunately skied by the opposition . We changed our shape to be more attacking and were rewarded when a free kick managed to find Zane and the ball works to Owen , in off the post 1-1 . If anyone was going to win it was us but it remained 1-1 , good close game, we never gave in .

A solid debut by Zane up front causing them some problems and great to have our keeper back with some really good saves.

No Training this Tuesday so have a great Christmas and see you soon

Update 9 Dec

A tough league game today against the best team in our league – Ebley . The injury curse hit early today with Zane being injured at rugby before even making his Cleeve debut! at least we had 12 players this week. Ebley move the ball around well and were 3-0 up at half time with 2 headers and a scrambled shot . In the 2nd half Ebley scored a really good volley from the edge  of the box 7-0 the final score .  We actually played quite well at times, the defence was competitive and Dan added a bit of  class and composure in centre midfield with Glyn and Hubert playing well down our left.

Today’s expectation was to compete ,  not to lose by many and to have all our players not receiving injuries or cards before next weeks game v Cheltenham CS Reds , mission almost accomplished as Kieron picked up an ankle injury.

Thanks to Luke for playing all match in-goal and making some great saves!

Well done all , we did OK, See you Tuesday

Update 2 December

A home game today against last season’s U15 Div 3 winners Abbeymead Rovers Yellows and with 12 players available the luxury of a sub this week. In the first half we had a lot of possession but couldn’t quite find the breakthrough and we used our sub up as Ethan playing really well injured his knee after 20 mins. 0-0 at half time . In the 2nd half the game started to open up and we created a couple of good chances with Ricky going close and a scramble from a Luca corner . In the last 10 mins Abbeymead threw everything at us one good save from Luke was followed by a spectacular tip over . so 0-0 in the end and another point on the board. Great effort and commitment from all the team , the back 5 playing particularly well and Charlie proving what a great defender he is . .

I think a draw was just about the right result , and thanks to Luca and Luke for clean sheeting in goal today .

See you Tuesday

Update 18 Nov

A “home” league game today at Agg Gardens in Cheltenham, as we have too many teams for the pitches at Cleeve we all take a turn at Agg.

So game against 3rd in the table unbeaten Barometrics. As expected Barometrics has a lot of possession but couldn’t break down our resolute defence 0-0 at half time . In the 2nd half we started to get forward a little more and from a Luca right wing corner the Baro defenders header glanced in to his own net , we had something to build on .

There was some brilliant defending ( a great point blank save from Ollie) and we always looked like we could score on the break, Baro eventually managed to get an equaliser 5 mins from time but we managed to hold on for a well deserved 1-1- draw .

In the last few games we have been a little short of players meaning the defence has had some serious workouts, this shone through today , everyone looked organised, defence secure , midfield did loads of running  and we  battled brilliantly, great teamwork .

Thanks to Keith, Pete and Jamie for helping out

Well done to Ricky with a busy 1st game up front and thanks to Olly for keeping goal all match .

We will hold training as normal on Tuesday on the astro f you need a break from revision,  for those doing exams this week . Good Luck!

See you Soon

Update 11 Nov

A league game against Broadwell Magpies who are 2nd in the league and going well. With 12 players confirmed ( already missing  injured Oscar, Nathaniel and Kieron) we were looking forward to a good game but unfortunately Ethan was ill in the night and incredibly Owen ( wrist) and Tom ( shin) both ended up in A&E before KO meaning we started with 9 . In the 1st half despite not having a lot of possession we managed to keep the score down to 1-0 . In the 2nd half we conceded an early goal and on big Pitch F Broadwell went on to win the game 5-0 . It would have  much closer if we had a full complement.

Thanks to Luca and Glyn for keeping goal today ( and some excellent referring from PB!)

We need to make a BIG effort to go to training on Tuesday, we have some tough games coming up before Christmas!

Update 4 Nov

A tough away game today against a strong team and likely league winners in Ebley. With Charlie having a last-minute sickness and our regular keeper out due to injury it was always going to be a tough game for our 12 players.

Ebley are a strong outfit , they pass the ball well and have plenty of running in midfield , In the 1st half we found ourselves 4-0 down but gained a little hope when a nice Ollie free kick was met with a Hubert header finding the net in off the post.. In the 2nd half with Ethan struggling with an injury and Nathaniel coming off after a bang on the knee it was no surprise that Ebley went on to win the game 13-1 . Today’s man of the match goes to Kieron , not fit enough to play out but playing in-goal all match and keeping the score down ,

See you Tuesday for some Midfield closing down drills

Update 28 Oct

A league game today against a decent side in FC Lakeside. So despite asking for half term availability weeks ago a mix of injuries and other commitments meant we has only 9 players available. A tough start was made even more difficult when Oscar twisted his knee in the warm up and was not fit to start so we started with 8 players against their 11 plus 4 subs!

Rotating keepers and an unusual  4-3-0 formation was deployed. In the first half it was really a game of attack v defence and we were really unlucky to concede a goal after 15 mins but dug deep to keep the score at 0-1 at half time. For the first 20 mins of the 2nd half we managed to keep the score at 0-1 but tiredness caught up with us in the last 20 mins for a final score of 0-6 .

We even managed a few chances throughout the game and one of their defenders received a yellow card for scything Glyn down when through on goal

The 8 boys who played today were fantastic, chasing , closing down and really fighting for the team,  all of then ran miles on the day , that’s the sort of effort and commitment we need every week , I was proud of you.

If we had managed to get 11 players today it would have been a very different game .

Thanks to Charlie , Ollie, Glyn and Tom for taking a stint in-goal today ( Ollie and Glyn registering clean sheets!)

Oscar went to A&E after the game , no break but knee ligament damage and on crutches so we will need to rotate keepers for a few weeks unless anyone fancies a stint in goal ,

Training tomorrow as normal

Update 21 Oct

A league game today against winless Churchdown Panthers Reds, We were a little short on numbers today and with Nathaniel going sick ( physically) just before KO we were down to just 11 players.

The first half was pretty even Churchdown taking the lead , then being awarded a penalty expertly saved by Oscar . A Glyn corner was brilliantly headed into the roof of the net from about 10  yards out by Owen, they took the lead again but a cross from Glyn on the right was bundled into the net by Hubert 2-2 at half time.

In the 2nd half we never really got  going in midfield and Churchdown deservedly scored 2 goals to complete a 4-2 win , I was disappointed today because we were just outrun, nothing special just out running us in the middle of the park .Our defence played well but were just left with too much to do , excellent defending from Owen and Charlie and some outstanding saves from Oscar.

No training on Tuesday as its half term so see you all next Sunday for a home game v Lakeside

Update 14 Oct

A home cup game today against Div 2 table toppers Broadwell Magpies . This wae always going to be a tough one agaainst a strong inform team on a wet afternoon. Broadwell started strongly and got into a 2-0 lead with a freekick that crept in at the near post and a cross/shot that drifted over Oscar’s heaad , in  the last 15 mins of the half we worked out what to do and started to press them high up the pitch with Leo playing particularly well , Harry put a header over and Luca hit a post but 0-2 at half time . In the second half we struggled a little with injuries and Broadwell were much stronger running out 7-0 winners . We showed in the 1st half we could match these guys but in the end they were deserved winners.

See you Tuesday

Update 7 Oct

A home league game today against GVR Chalford. So with lots of GFA cup matches today and no referee it was Paul who had the dubious pleaseure of reffing the game . The game started well and Chalford were the better team taking a deserved lead, we started to play some decent football and a nice passing move led to Luca playing a through ball for Owen to slot home, Leo creaated a great chance for himself but shot high and Chalford again pressed and scored just before half time 1-2 . In the 2nd half we started to take control creating a number chances and Kieron’s pass found Luke out wide for a great high finish into the net 2-2 . The only other incident occured following a corner to us , a bit of pushing led to a few punches being thrown and a booking for the Chalford centre back and Ollie . On the overall play we probably deserved to just about win but 2-2 not a bad result .

See you Tuesday

Update 30 Sep

A league game today against Swindon Village Bowmen at LKimg George V. It’s always a good gane aginst these guys , we always play decent football they are always pretty physical. In the first half we played really well , nice patterns in midfield and pace down the flanks  however we couldn’t find the net so 0-0 at half time . In the 2nd half with the wind behind us and down hill  we were quietly confident however the Bowmen  were stronger and started to take control . A far post volley, a couple of cross shots and a long distance shot saw the Bowmen 4-0 winners . I think it was a little harsh we deserved something from our 1st half performance but didn’t take our chances. Thanks to Hubert for taking over in goal when Oscar was injured and some brilliant defending from Charlie.

See you Tuesday

Update 23 Sep

A game in the Cheltenham League Cup today against Charlton Rovers Blues. These guys play in Div 3 but have strengthened following the folding of their other team ( the Reds) so was never going to be an easy game and with only 11 players  available on a wet windy and sometimes sunny day even tougher..The 1st half was pretty close with few chances but the game opened up in the 2nd half and Charlton Rovers created a few chances as we suffered from injuries to Nathaniel and Hubert . Nathaniel  managed to carry on but with Hubert struggling it was time to swap keepers , so Hubert goes in and Oscar goes into midfield.  In the last 15 mins we started to play quite well and created a few good chances with Owen and Kieron without finding the net so 0-0 at full time and as it’s a cup match straight to penalty shootout .Oscar back into goal and  sadly I remember the sequence

1 Tom Scores , CR shot well saved to Oscar’s left.  2.Glyn precision pen hits post and out , CR Score,  3. Luke’s low pen well saved, CR score, 4  Leo scores, CR hit the bar and out,  5 Luca over the bar , CR over the bar. So into Sudden death 6 Owen Scores . CR Score . 7 Charlie scores, CR score, 8 Kieron scores , CR shot low to Oscar’s right well saved. So that was it into the next round 5-4 on Pens.

We weren’t at our best today but dug deep to get a good result , Well Done everyone , See you Tuesday

Update 18 Sep

Quick match report  (Thanks Jonny.) Luca scored from corner with keeper flapping it into the net. Then they got cheap equaliser where we wern’t focused from a throw in. Then they went 2 -1 up with a 25 yard screamer into top corner. Owen scored from Glyn’s corner and then we had couple of chances to go in front,  a goal mouth scramble from Owen after a nice move and a header from Kieron from a corner. But they hit us with a sucker punch,  ball dropped nice to one of them from a cross and they scored. Final Score Cheltenham CS Reds 3 Clreeve Rovers 2

We deserved to win and everyone worked really hard and played nice football out from the back. No one panics on the ball no more
