BC Colts Rovers U15 Boys

Season 2017-18

Update 22 April,

Final game of the season at home against Charlton Rovers Blues. despite a big gap in league positions we always have a close game and so it was again. Charlton managed to score early on and then race into a 2 -0 lead . A very rough tackle on Harry was yellow carded , we continued to push forward and scored a goal just before half time with a right sided Dan free kick headed in at the far post by Owen . In the 2nd half with the wind behind s we had loads of possession and chances but couldn’t find the net . Then a through ball handballed, 2nd yellow for the centre back so off he went . We continued to push , hit the post but kept going with a flick on from Owen for Hubert to score his 1st goal for us slotting in on the far post. 2-2 final result . Season over we finished 3rd in the league , Won 8 , Drew 3 , lost 5 .

Thanks to Tom for keeping goal today

Update 15 April,

An away game v Leckhampton Falcons today. With a strong squad hopes were high and we started the game really brightly getting forward well. Then the game changing moment Lecky get a shot on goal a great right handed save from Charlie on the goaline , unfortunately he was playing centre back so penalty and Red card correctly awarded that they scored.. Then a long range free kick caught on the wind , greasy bounce over our keeper 2-0 . In the 2nd half we really started to play , unfortunately conceding a 3rd in the process  but scoring one when Luke’s shot was saved and Kieron rammed in the rebound. We were about to score a 2nd but the linesman’s flag dubiously went up for offside , Having gone to a back 3 we really tried but their keeper played well ( again) and we conceded 2 late goals 5-1 in the end , to be fair their manager said how well we had played for 10 men, te effort was unquestionable, Thanks to Oscar for playing in-goal all match . One game to go , a win guarantees us a 3rd place finish 3rd . I heard Jose Mourinio on the radio after Man Utd’s 1-0 home loss to West Brom today he said to win titles you need to be performance and mentally consistent all season , we could have easily won this league with a bit more consistency .  Training on Tuesday on the field 18.00 – 19.30

Update 8 April

A game today against current league leaders Swindon Village Bowmen. Its always a close game against these guys and so it proved again today. In the 1st half we played some nice football on the ground and deservedly scored ourt 1st following some nice skill at the left hand corner flag and a cross from Luke duly headed in by Owen . We continued to go forwards and an Ollie corner was hesaded towards goal by Luke , fumbled by the keeper and squirmed in under Owens challenge , Luke’s goal I think. In the 2nd half Swindon really pushed us back , one flying save from Oscar but they scored one and eventually equalised with a shot from the edge of the area that seemed to go past everyone in our defence.

2-2 in the end  probably a fair result, thanks to Oscar for playing in goal today

Training the Tuesday is BACK ON THE CLEEVE FIELD – meet 18.00 until 19.30

Update 25 March

Exactly one month since our last game  and it showed in the 1st half against Leckhampton Falcons. We were pretty slow and 2nd to the ball and we really failed to clear our lines on 3 occasions and found ourselves 3-0 down at half time  I  the last 15 mins of the 1st half we started to play a little better creating a couple of good chances to give us some hope in the 2nd half

In the 2nd half we played much better a pass from Ethan found Harry on the left to cross for Leo to win a far post challenge and fire home . Despite going to 3 at the back and having lots of pressure we couldn’t get another so 1-3 in the end . We were a few players missing today and in the first 10 mins we had 2 injuries, not helpful against a decent team who were well up for the game.,

We play them again in 3 weeks time , we’ll be better next time!

Thanks to Freds and Hubert for taking a turn in goal today

Last Astro training session on Tuesday, then back to the field after Easter

Update 25 Feb

An away fixture today at Southside Tigers. In a game swe expected to win it was a really tight 1st half , Southside having the better possession ourselves the better chances , 0-0 at half time. In the 2nd half we upped our game and enjoyed lots of possession and created lots of chances without success. Then 10mins from the end Kieron managed to thread a through ball across the box for Owen to slot home. We continued to creat chances but also bolstered our back line until the last-minute when their pacy forward latched on to a through ball and was went down in the box following a challenge by Oscar (I think), penalty duly despatched .1-1 final score. We played really well in the 2nd half so were all disappointed but still in with a shout for promotion.

Thanks to Ollie, Huw, Sam and Tom for taking a turn in-goal today

See you Tuesday

Update 4 Feb

Away today against what appeared to be on paper a tricky fixture at Frampton who have only lost twice this season, The drama before kick off was all about the nets , or to be precise the lack of them . We all learned something today, the FA say its fine to play without nets with the 2 managers agreement however to be safe we appointed goal line spotters ( Thanks Matt, Keith and Huw) . So with no ref either ( their manager) the game got underway . It’s fair to say we were on fire in the 1st half

Goal 1 – Ollie corner , flick from Oscar Luke slots home, Goal 2 – Ollie great left foot pass over the top one touch control and fired home from Luke, Goal 3 – run and cross from Kieron on the left for Oscar to control and lay back for Owen to fire high into the goal. Goal 4-Luca left footed corner from our right headed home by Owen . Goal 5 – Ditto Luca left footed corner from our right headed home by Owen . Goal 6-Luca nice through ball into the box for Owen to slot home. Goal 7 – Clearance picked up from Ollie for long-range shot to squirm in. Half Time 7-0 Phew! Understandably in the 2nd half we took our foot off the gas a little Goal 8 – clearance picked up from Harry on the edge of the box and a nice right footed curler into the top left corner. Goal 9 – Run down the left by Oscar to cross for Leo to score his 1st goal for us on the far post. Goal 10 – Nice skill from Harry to cross from the right to find Sam also with his 1st goal for us on the far post to fire home .  And somewhere in the 2nd half we conceded 2 goals . 10-2 Full Time

So today was a great performance , defence looked assured and passed the ball out , midfield dominant and strikers linking the play nicely. It was really the passing throughout the team that was impressive today , we literally passed them off the park. Well done everyone .Thanks to Tom, Owen and Luke for taking a turn in-goal today.

Training on Tuesday with Jonny again as I’m at St Andrews again FA Cup v Huddersfield.

Update 28 Jan

What appeared a straight forward game against Charlton Rovers Blues today gave us chance to rotate our squad..So we started 4 3 3 but never really got a grip in midfield and deservedly fell 1-0 behind and then having to sub Charlie in centre mid who wasn’t feeling well at half time . At half time it was a chance to regroup and decide if we really wanted to win the game so we changed to 4 4 2 to get on the ball in midfield and started to create chances. We started to play well and gained some momentum with Luke and Leo having a few shots . We were eventually rewarded when a Freds throw was crossed in  by Oscar , partially cleared but Ollie on hand to calmly slot home from 6 yards. We continued to push ,and a Luke throw was controlled ad thankfully  fired in from the edge of the box by Kieron . So 2-1 in the end , poor in the 1st half dominated the 2nd and ground out a result , Well done .

Training on Tuesday with Jonny as Paul and Oscar at a relegation cruncher Birmingham v Sunderland , more pressure !

Update 14 Jan

A home game today against Southside Star Tigers who we normally do well against but can be tricky opponents. So a chance to rotate the squad and also give our keeper Josh some time outfield. In the 1st half after a while of not getting on the ball we then played well passing the ball around being rewarded with a nice bit of skill by Henri on the left wing flicking the ball over a player before passing to Luca to play a through ball for Josh to finish. In the 2nd half we again had lots of possession without scoring so it was a relief when Dan’s great corner found Owen’s head to make it 2-0. Back up to joint 2nd in the league and all to play for. Thanks to Oscar, Tom, Hubert and Luca for taking a turn in goal today, 4 clean sheets!.

See you on Tuesday

Update 7 Jan

Happy New Year !

It’s been ages since we played a match, 26th Nov to be precise and a tricky home game against Frampton to start 2018.. On a cold windy day we were a little sluggish in the first half, highlights/lowlights being Kieron’s overhead kick that hit the bar and Josh unable to continue with a finger injury. . We did have a lot of the play and Leo was unlucky on 2 occasions . however we failed to clear a scramble in our box 1-0 down at half time.. In the 2nd half we were much better and totally dominated play . Charlie managed to find some space in the box to pass through to Owen to score , Charlie again this time with a shot that the keeper saved only for John to poke home then a 3rd with Luca’s through ball being nicely left foot slotted home by Luke. We should have scored a 4th after an Oscar through ball finding Hubert to brilliantly fire home but the dreaded offside flag went up. So a really good 2nd half performance saw us comfortable 3-1 winners , well done. Thanks to Oscar and Tom for takig a turn in goal today

Training on Tuesday as normal

Update 26 Nov

A game against Slimbridge today who were sitting one place behind us in 3rd . With a strong team we played well in the first half creating a few chances and scoing once wigh a nice through ball from Tom beautifully finished with a cross the keeper shot from Harry. Then the 2nd half , I honestly dont know what happened apart from the fact that Slimbridge just wanted to win their personal battles more and we ended up losing 1-3. Enough said. No training thisTuesday . next match 10th Dec

Update 12 Nov

A top of the table clash today against Abbeymead Yellows. After the last few games we entered the game in confident mood . The opening phase of the match was pretty even , Abbeymead always looked dangerous on the break but we managed to take the lead with Owen poking home Luca’s corner . To be fair Abbeymead had 2 wide speedy forwards and we have them too much space for them to breaak through our defence for 2 goals and a penalty conceded by Josh 1-3 at half time, we weren’t playing well. In the 2nd half we changed things around and started quite well but couldn’t find a way through, the next goal was vital unfortunately conceded by us and then heads dropped and we conceded 3 more goals making the final score 1-7 .We were 2nd to most balls today , too many players having an off day , we all know we’re much better than that. Still 2nd in the league so we need to pick ourselves up for the next game

Update 5 Nov

A month since we last played and a tricky away match at Redmarley who beat the league leaders Abbeymead 6-2 last week. we were a few players short and with Josh the goalie injured it was time for a big team effort. So 1st half with Oscar in goal we played really well at times creating a few chances Henri, Will and Luke combining nicely down our right but not scoring,  our defence with Tom and Charlie looking tight, 0-0 at half time . In the 2nd half Tom played in goal and we were soon rewarded for our good play with a Luca corner headed on by Oscar for Kieron to head home close in . We then gained a 2nd, Dan on the left playing a fab cross field pass for Luke to control and fire in from the edge of the box , nice goal.  Redmarley managed to get a goal back but we were always in control and saw the game out comfortable 2-1 winners . Some nice individual performances today. but more importantly a great team effort from 13 players ,well done. Thanks to Tom and Oscar for playing in goal today

See you Tuesday

Update 8 Oct

Back to the league with an away match against Swindon Village Bowmen , always a close game .There was drama before KO as Josh somehow managed to twist his ankle in the warm up from a Luca shot , out with the icepack and a contingency plan if he couldn’t continue , thankfully not required . In the first 15 mins we played really well getting behind their defence and creating a few chances that we just couldn’t put away . Some of the stuff we were playing was great , exploiting the spaces down the wings so a little unlucky to be 0-0 at half time.. We started the 2nd half well and a foul just inside their half , Tom free kick partially cleared to Luca to calmly chest down just in side the box and right foot slot home . The rest of the game was really about who wanted to win more , our desire was greater, Luke chased absolutely everything and we clean sheeted to gain a hard-fought 1-0 win,  The whole matchday squad had some pitch time , everyone played their part, 2nd in the league going well. Well done.. see you Tuesday

Update 1 Oct

Another cup game this time the GFA Cup away at a strong Ruardean side .The weather was miserable and with only 12 players available it was always going to be tough. In the 1st half we had chances but they were much stronger and when we has to withdraw Ethan and Tom through injuries to be down to 10 men and looking a little tired in midfield it would only get tougher. so 6-0 down at half time . In the 2nd half we swapped a few positions around , hit the bar through Ollie and good skill by Henri earning us a penalty scored by Ollie. Towards the end there was a really bad injury to one of the Ruardean players following a challenge with Kieron so we allowed a walk through goal to finish the match and all go home, lets hope he’s OK,  Well played Josh in goal today and some nice skills from Henri and battling from Kieron. Back to the league next week

See you Tuesday

Update 24Sept

A game in the Matthew Wyatt memorial cup today ( Matthew was Jim’s Wyatt the old chair of CCFC who played for the club but died as a teenager)  against Prestbury Spirits who were promoted to Div 1 last season. We were all looking forward to playing against George but he was sick! , A few of our players looked a little tired , that said in the first half we were more than a match for them 0-0 at half time . Our defence and keeper were playing brilliantly but unfortunately Charlie picked up a groin injury  causing us to reorganise. We had a couple of decent cgances but the Prestbury team scored 4 decent goals to make the score 0-4 in the end . Solid debut from Olle and a couple of yellow cards ( Tom and Ollie!) .

We have another cup game next weekend then back to our priority , the League .

Training  on Tuesday is at th Winchcombe  Astro . meet  there 18.15 for a prompt 18.30 start to.19.30 finish

Update 17 Sept

An away game today at Slimbridge and a good chance to test our squad strength . We started really well and went close a couple if times until eventually John got free down the right to cross for Harry to squeeze home on the near post . Then a 2nd,  Toms corner for Owen to head home , 3rd Kieron free down the left and a cross for Owen to roll home then a 4th with a Kieron Cross shot following through ball from Oscar . So 4-0 at half time and cruising , to be fair to Slimbridge they really had a go at us in the 2nd half , getting back to 4-2 with a long range shot and an unfortunate OG. . Then the key moment of the match a dubious penalty brilliantly tipped over the angle by Josh . We then got a 5th with a Harry pass for Owen to shoot home , a 6th with John forcing home a Tom corner , Slimbridge managed to get back to 6-4 but we finished the game stronger , a keeper fumble forced home by Oscar and our final 8th with Hubert stealing off their defender to get to the bye line and cross for Oscar to roll in. 8-4 in the end. In summary excellent in the 1st half , a little complacent in the 2nd but a well deserved comfortable win.

Well done everyone , see you Tuesday

Update 10 Sept

First home game against the team who finished 3rd in our league last season – Redmarley.. We won the toss and with the wind behind us we totally domimated the first half . A Luca corner sidefooted home by Owen , A Luca Cross shot tapped in at the far post ny Kieron , then a nice pickup by Kieron on the left wing from a Luca pass a jink into the penalty are and curled over the keeper from the edge of the box, nice goal. So 3-0 at half time and everyone winning their individual battles. In the 2nd half it was important not to concede early but we went one better with a Luke throughball to John first shot saved but John there to fire home the rebound, Redarley managed to score against the play but we finished the game with another Luca through ball finding Luke to slot home 5-1 .

We has another goal disallowed and some good positions enthusiastically flagged offside but nothing could spoil a really good performance throughout . Good 1st game for Josh in goal, he is a true sweeper keeper seeing danger quickly and snuffing it out.

Well done everyone , see you Tuesday

Update 3 Sept

Following a very good friendly performance against Eckington it was back for out first league game of the season away at Abbeymead Yellows. It was a horrid rainy September day played on a pitch where the grass was 3 inches long , almost unplayable .  We started the game pretty slowly and were quickly 2-0 behind following 2 borderline penalty decisions ending the half 4-0 behind following a scrambled goal and a long shot . In the last 10 mins of the first half we created some chances with Charlie hitting the bar and a couple of nice moves. In the 2nd half we played much better Owen heading against the bar and tapping the rebound , Oscar hitting the bar again , We fell 5-1 behind following a good goal , back to 5-2 folowing a Charlie free kick for Owen to force home but one more long shot finished the game 6-2. Plenty to work on in training , free kicks and corners , through passes and finishing. So dissapointed – yes , signs of promise – yes.

Squad was a bit stretched today so thanks to Hubert, Kieron, Sam and Luca for taking a turn in goal , our new keeper will be available for our next game !
