4th May – League – Dursley 0 – 10 Cleeve Colts (Belle 4, Sandra 3, Freya, Georgia, Bella)

Squad: Bella, Ellie, Izzy, Emily C, Meg, Sandra, Izzi, Belle, Morgan, Jemma, Georgia, Freya, Emily D

After a fantastic season we needed at least a draw to win the league away to Dursley on a Friday evening. The girls started quickly and after just 2 minutes Sandra went through and slotted home to make it 1-0. We piled the pressure on but with some stout defending and excellent goalkeeping along with being caught offside on numerous occasions the half time score was 1-0. We needed to up our game and improve our finishing which is exactly what they did with Belle scoring 4 second half goals, Sandra getting another two, Freya getting on the scoresheet and Georgia running from the halfway line and then lobbing the goalkeeper. With 10 minutes to go we swopped goalkeepers and Ellie had a go in goal while Bella came out on pitch, nearly immediately she was clean through only to be thwarted by the goalkeeper but then get on the scoresheet with a great run and superb finish……a great end to a great season………14 league games, 14 wins! Well done to the whole squad……….League Champions!!!

29th April – County Cup Final – AEK Boco 3 – 0 Cleeve Colts

Squad: Bella, Ellie, Izzy, Emilia, Meg, Morgan, Emily D, Belle, Izzi, Freya, Sandra, Belle, Emily C, Jemma, Georgia, Keeley

After the first date for the County Cup Final was postponed due to snow, a month later the final arrived. We took a full squad of 16 along with good support from family and friends. AEK Boco kicked off and we played against the wind in the first half, we were on the back foot early on with Boco playing some nice football and creating a few half chances. As the half went on we did try and get a foothold in the game but it was hard against the wind and we were struggling to clear our lines. We defended extremely well as we have all season and Boco were finding it hard to break us down and we managed to go in at half time 0-0. After a positive team talk based around the fact that we had done really well to hold out against the wind and we will now have the wind in our favour, the girls went out full of optimism. That was quickly dashed as we conceded after just two minutes with a scrappy goal that Bella nearly managed to keep out with a one handed save that crept in the corner. We tried to get back into it and definitely had a bit more of the ball than we had in the first half but Boco were very strong at the back and eventually made it two from a corner with another to follow shortly after. The girls had done really well to get to the final and battled really well but were beaten by a better side who thoroughtly deserved their win, well done AEK Boco. Another runners up medal for the Under 14’s in the County Cup…….great effort girls!

22nd April – League – Abbeymead 0 – 13 Cleeve Colts (Belle 5, Sandra 5, Freya 2 & Georgia)

Squad: Morgan, Ellie, Meg, Emily D, Georgia, Keeley, Bella, Izzi, Sandra, Freya, Emilia, Emily C, Charlie, Belle, Izzy, Jemma

We took a huge squad of 16 to Abbeymead for another away league game and again played some lovely football, our passing and moving was excellent today and some excellent finishes. Admittedly, Abbeymead had been depleted with injuries so were not the side we played earlier in the season. The whole squad contributed to this with some composed play and nobody rushing to get rid of the ball, everybody looking for a pass from the back and through midfield. In the end we ran out ready winners with goals from Sandra who scored 5 with a couple of stunning long range finishes, Belle also scored 5 with a couple of mazy runs to get through the defence, Freya scored 2 both being proper strikers poaching finishes and Georgia got on the scoresheet for the second week running. Well done to all the team.

15th April – League – Rodborough 0 – 6 Cleeve Colts (Sandra 3, Izzi 2 & Georgia)

Squad: Charlie, Izzy, Freya, Izzi, Keeley, Bella, Emily C, Sandra, Georgia, Morgan, Emilia, Emily D, Jemma

Our first away game for a while and we headed to Rodborough, they gave us a tough game at home when they played a high line and we found it difficult to cope. No such problems this time around though, following a good training session based around staying onside and making the right passes we played some nice football and broke their offside trap on numerous occasions, firstly after 15 mins Sandra went through to score and she quickly made it two while Izzi got on the scoresheet along with Georgia who cooly finished after being clean through…..4-0 at half time. The second half was similar and Izzi got her second after 53 mins and we saved the best too last as Izzi thread a great ball through to Sandra who lobbed the goalie to make the final score 6-0.

25th March – League – Cleeve Colts 3 – 2 Highnam (Jemma, Belle & Sandra)

Squad: Izzi, Freya, Belle, Meg, Emily C, Morgan, Georgia, Emily D, Emilia, Ellie, Sandra, Izzy, Jemma

Following our postponement of our County Cup Final due to snow at the end of March!!!, we had our potentially league decider against Highnam, we have had some superb games against them and this one definitely did not disappoint. Highnam came out of the blocks very quickly and were on the front foot when they went in front from a corner, Ellie did well to parry it out but it was finished well into the top of the net. We responded well and Belle equalised with a good through ball that Belle latched on to and slotted it home in the bottom corner……half time 1-1. We started well in the second half and on 47 mins Jemma scored with an excellent left foot finish, could we go on and win it from here? This time it was Highnam that responded with a reply within minutes and it was back to level pegging at 2-2. It was end to end stuff and either team could have won it but Sandra picked up the ball on the left and cut inside, I am sure Sandra will say it was a shot although I think it may have been a cross but either way it ended up in the bottom corner, 3-2 to Cleeve. The last few minutes were tense but we held on well. A very good advert for girls football played in the right spirit and probably a 2-2 would have been a fair result…….well done girls!

11th March – League – Cleeve Colts 3 – 0 Cheltenham Town Girls (Belle, Freya & Izzi)

Squad: Emily D, Izzy, Belle, Meg, Lauren, Sandra, Keeley, Freya, Bella, Morgan, Izzi, Georgia, Ellie, Emilia

Back to league action after another small break and we were at home to our local rivals Cheltenham Town Girls, we had a good match at their place earlier in the season so expected another tough match which is exactly what we got. They had not played a competitive match for quite some time but defended very stoutly in the first half and although creating a few chances we could not get passed their well organised defence…..0-0 at half time. We started the second half on the front foot and Belle got us in front after 55 mins with a cool finish. This was quickly followed by a second with Freya getting on the scoresheet and then 5 minutes later Izzi made it 3-0. We continued to press but Cheltenham’s goalie was in fine form and it ended 3-0.

25th Feb – Semi Final County Cup – Cleeve Colts 5 – 1 BLU (Belle 5)

Squad: Bella, Ellie J, Izzy, Emilia, Meg, Morgan, Jemma, Izzi, Belle, Emily D, Sandra, Georgia, Emily C, Charlie

This was our chance for Cleeve Under 14’s to make it to the final of the County Cup two years running but Bristol Ladies Union stood in our way who were currently top of the Bristol B League and had already beaten Avon 3-1 in a league fixture so this would be a good game. Well the girls played probably the best half of football I have seen from us this season with some lovely pass and move play culminating in many chances being created. Belle scored in minute 9, 15, 18 & 24 to make it 4-0 at half time. Belle has finished her goals superbly but the build up play from the rest of the team was excellent and the defence were solid as well. We seemed to take our foot of the pedal in the 2nd half although BLU upped their game and managed to get one back but that was after Belle had got her 5th with constant chasing and pressurising paying dividends. Final score 5-1. The girls were brilliant today and thoroughly deserve to be in the final.

18th Feb – League – Cleeve Colts v Forest of Dean (Home Walkover)

Unfortunately the Forest of Dean could not raise enough players to play a league fixture but managed to bring some Under 16’s to make a game of it. We had a good friendly which was much needed after the break and especially with our big semi final next week.

14th Jan – League – Cleeve Colts 3 – 1 Gloucester City (Morgan, Sandra & Emily D)

Squad: Morgan, Izzi, Ellie J, Emily D, Charlie, Meg, Emily C, Sandra, Bella, Freya, Emilia, Keeley, Izzy

First league game of 2018 was a home fixture against Gloucester City and after a good win last week we started the game as we left off. Some lovely football and in the 14th minute Morgan slotted home a cool finish from just inside the box to make it 1-0. We were playing some really good football and putting lots of pressure on the GC goal and the 2nd was inevitable, this came on 20 minutes from Sandra. On 27 minutes Emily D converted a good move on the right that ended up at her feet close to the penalty spot and dispatching it into the bottom corner giving the goalkeeper no chance. Half time 3-0. GC heads could have gone down in the 2nd half but they battled very hard and managed to get a deserved goal to make the final score 3-1.

7th Jan – Quarter Final County Cup – Cleeve Colts 2 – 0 Avon Athletic (Sandra & Belle)

Squad: Izzy, Emily D, Emily C, Sandra, Izzi, Freya, Emilia, Morgan, Ellie J, Meg, Belle, Bella, Georgia, Jemma

After a bye in the first round, we were given a tough draw against Avon Athletic (thankfully at home) in the quarter finals. Avon are going very well in their league and we knew this would be a tough match and it proved to be exactly that. The first half was very even with both teams creating a few chances but it remained 0-0 at half time. We stepped it up in the 2nd half and on 53 minutes Sandra converted a nice move to make it 1-0. We continued to press and 8 minutes later Belle made it 2-0 with a good finish. Avon tried to get back into the match but our midfield and defence held strong to make the final score 2-0. A good win against a good Bristol team.

Dec 3rd – League – Cleeve Colts 2 – 0 Rodborough (Belle & Izzi) – Player of the Match – Ellie D

Squad: Bella, Izzy, Freya, Meg, Belle, Izzi, Emilia, Lauren, Morgan, Emily D, Ellie D, Ellie J, Georgia

This was the last league game before the Christmas break and exactly half way through the season and we were at home to Rodborough, who we had some very good games against last year. Similar to last week we got off to a slow start and although playing some nice football at times we struggled to create too many chances against a solid and very well drilled Rodborough back line. We were being caught offside on numerous occasions with their defence playing a high line and our strikers struggling to time their runs. Finally, on 21 mins Georgia found some space on the right hand side and put a nice ball into the middle for Belle to control and finish superbly into the bottom corner. We started to create a few more chances but Rodborough had their fair share with Bella pulling off a couple of good saves…..1-0 at half time. In the 2nd half we started to get to grips with the offside trap and created numerous chances but the defence and goalkeeper stood firm until on 47 mins Izzi hit a lovely shot from the edge of the area into the top corner. We could off and should off scored more but we missed a penalty and a couple of other chances late on due to Rodborough getting tired as they played with only 11 players……great credit to them they battled to the end. That is halfway through the league season and we have a 100% record so well done to you all.

Nov 26th – League – Gloucester City 0 – 3 Cleeve Colts (Belle, Izzi, Ellie D) – Player of the Match – Belle

Squad: Bella, Charlie, Izzy, Ellie J, Meg, Keeley, Izzi, Belle, Emily D, Freya, Sandra, Ellie D, Emilia, Emily C, Lauren

An unusual afternoon kick off this week as we were away to Gloucester City in our penultimate league game before the Christmas break and it proved a tough game against a very well organised Gloucester City team. The first half proved to be frustrating with some nice football being played and many crosses going into their box but a combination of excellent goalkeeping and good defending kept it to 0-0 at half time. The second half was only 1 minute in and we managed to get an important goal with a left footed finish into the corner from Izzi. That seemed to settle us down and we played some lovely passing football after that with an accurate through ball from Meg setting Belle through on goal and she smashed it into the top of the net on 44 mins. We continued to dominate the play and on 54 mins Ellie D scored her first goal of the season with another good finish into the corner……3-0 was the final score. Gloucester made it very difficult for us today and they battled all the way to the end so credit to them.

Nov 19th – League – Cleeve Colts 5 – 0 Abbeymead Rovers (Belle 5 & Freya) – Player of the Match – Bella

Squad: Izzi, Freya, Emily D, Belle, Meg, Ellie J, Bella, Georgia, Morgan, Emilia, Jemma, Ellie D

Following a friendly last week with Evesham Under 16’s we were back in league action at home to 2nd place side Abbeymead Rovers and this proved to be a very entertaining game. Abbeymead had been scoring for fun this season so we knew we had to be solid at the back today and that proved the difference between the two sides. After a tight first 10 minutes, Belle made it 1-0 with a cool left footed finish into the bottom corner. We played some nice football and created a few more chances before half time but could not extend our lead, Abbeymead had their fair share off the ball but the defence and Bella were up to anything that was thrown at them. Going into the 2nd half 1-0 up and we needed to get an early goal and that was exactly what we got with a nice through ball from Freya and Belle ran on and finished well. Three minutes later and we were 3-0 up with a similar goal but this time it was a through ball from Izzi for Belle to complete her hat trick. Belle made it 4-0 on 46 minutes and Freya got a deserved goal 2 minutes from the end to complete the scoring and make the final score 5-0. This was a great result and performance, especially pleasing that we kept a clean sheet and credit should go to Ellie, Meg, Morgan, Emilia and Emily D for keeping it tight and a very assured performance from Bella in goal. Good result girls….

Nov 5th – League – Highnam 1 – 5 Cleeve Colts (Freya 3, Sandra & Belle) – Player of the Match – Sandra

Squad: Bella, Ellie J, Izzy, Morgan, Meg, Emily D, Izzi, Belle, Georgia, Sandra, Freya, Charlie, Keeley, Emily C

After the break for half term we were back in league action away to Highnam, this is always a very tough game against a very good team. This game did not prove any different although it was helped with a great start with a superb through ball from Izzi that set Sandra on her way and she coolly finished to make it 1-0 after just 1 minute. The next 15-20 mins were very tight and both sides created chances with Izzi hitting the cross bar and the Highnam goalkeeper making  couple of good saves from one on one situations, then came the save of the match from Bella as the Highnam striker hit a great shot that looked like it would nestle in the back of the net when Bella managed to tip it on to the crossbar and the ball went over. On 32 minutes, Freya made it 2-0 with a good poachers goal and that was the score at half time. We needed to come out fast in the second half and that is what the girls did with a goal within the first minute from Freya again being in the right place at the right time to finish nicely. 3 minutes later and Freya had got her hat trick, anticipating where the ball might end up and being sharp enough to finish again and it was 4-0. Highnam carried on battling and got a deserved goal with a cool fish after rounding Bella, giving Bella no chance. This excellent performance was rightly capped off with a good through ball from Ellie and Belle also rounded the goalkeeper to finish, Belle had been excellent all match. This was another strong team performance from Bella in goal, defence were solid all match and the midfield and attack creating chances. Well done girls.

Oct 15th – League – Cleeve Colts 3 – 1 Ashton Keynes (Belle 2 & Sandra) – Player of the Match – Belle

Squad: Izzy, Jemma, Freya, Sandra, Bella, Keeley, Meg, Belle, Ellie J, Emily D, Charlie, Morgan, Izzi, Georgia

Our second home game of the season was against Ashton Keynes who had some mixed results up to now and we did not know what to expect. We started a bit slowly and AK put us under some good pressure battling hard in midfield and holding firm at the back. After 18 minutes AK took the lead with a good strike that Bella got a hand too but could not keep it out. This was the first time we had gone behind this season and it would be interesting to see how we reacted. We started to come into the game a bit more and we finally got the equaliser with a great strike into the top corner from Belle after 27 mins. Right on half time Belle put us in front with a right footed shot that gave the goalkeeper no chance. We had not played well first half but I think the credit should go to AK who out battled us and played some nice football and did not really deserve to go into the break losing. We needed to get off to a better start in the second half and we did, creating a few chances that their goalkeeper was equal too. After 58 mins, Freya hassled their defender into a mistake and Freya crossed for Sandra to slide home to make it 3-1. There was chances at both ends in the last 10 minutes but the score stayed the same. I understand from AK coach that they have gained a few new players and I thought they gave us the toughest game so far and their two centre backs were excellent throughout….well done Ashton Keynes.

Oct 8th – League – Cheltenham Town Ladies 1 – 4 Cleeve Colts (Freya 2, Belle & Sandra) – Player of the Match – Sandra

Squad: Bella, Emily C, Izzy, Morgan, Meg, Ellie D, Izzi, Belle, Jemma, Sandra, Freya, Keeley, Ellie J, Emilia, Georgia

After a week off, we headed to Cheltenham Civil Service in bright sunshine on a great pitch against Cheltenham Town who were also unbeaten after two games so a 100% record had to go. We knew this would be a competitive game and we needed to start well which is exactly what we did with some excellent passing and movement in the first 10 minutes. Freya was extremely unlucky not to put us 1-0 up with a great move culminating in Freya’s strike crashing off the bar although it was not long before we took the lead with a good finish from Belle on 7 minutes. We continued to dominate and CT’s goalie made a few good saves before they started to come into the game and our defence had to stand firm along with Bella making a good save. We went in 1-0 up at half time! The first goal in the second half was going to be crucial and we got it with a lovely through ball from Belle that found Freya and she cooly slotted into the bottom corner on 42 minutes. Only two minutes later and we made it three with nearly an identical goal with Izzi sliding the ball through to Freya who found the same corner for her second of the match. Cheltenham continued to battle hard and they got a goal back with a good strike that Bella could not keep out. We wren still creating the better chances and Sandra made it 4-1 with another good finish into the bottom corner giving the goalie no chance. This was another excellent performance from the whole squad with Izzi and Belle having great games in the middle of the park.

Sept 24th – League – Cleeve Colts 9 v 0 Dursley Town (Belle 3, Freya 3 & Sandra 3) – Player of the Match – Morgan

Squad: Izzy, Meg, Freya, Belle, Charlie, Morgan, Emily C, Emily D, Izzi, Sandra, Ellie J, Keeley, Ellie D

Our first home league match of the season was against Dursley and we had 13 girls available this week. We very much carried on where we left off last week with some great football being played throughout the team and we went ahead after only 3 minutes with a goal from Belle who made it 2-0 after 10 minutes with a lethal finish into the top corner giving their keeper no chance. Sandra got on the scoresheet after 13 and Freya did the same with 20 minutes gone and we made it 5-0 at halftime with another goal from Sandra after racing through and finishing well. The second half was a bit more timid but Freya got her first hat trick of the season with 2 goals on 44 mins and 64 mins, that was followed by Sandra completing hers on 68 and Belle making it three hat tricks in one match with the final goal of the game just before the final whistle. Again the goal scorers will get all the plaudits but this was another great team effort with excellent performances from Izzi and Emily D in midfield and the whole defence being solid giving their strikers very little opportunities. Ellie made a great save to tip a shot onto the cross bar. Dursley battled all the way to the end and deserve a lot of credit for their efforts as this was their first game of the season with a new squad and their goalkeeper was excellent throughout.

Sept 17th – League – Forest of Dean 0 v 8 Cleeve Colts (Belle 4, Freya 2, Izzi & Sandra) – Player of the Match – Belle

Squad: Charlie, Jemma, Sandra, Ellie J, Bella, Georgia, Belle, Meg, Freya, Emilia, Emily C, Keeley, Morgan, Izzi, Izzy

First league game of the season and we were away to the Forest of Dean on an excellent pitch at Ellwood FC. We took a squad of 15 girls and this was an excellent team effort from all the players. FOD gave use two very competitive matches last year but I think we caught them cold this season as they had not played any pre season friendlies so were a little bit rusty at this stage of the season. We were very good though and after dominating the first few exchanges, Belle got us in front with a good finish. A combination of good saves and sloppy finishing kept it at 1-0 until the 26th minute when Belle got her second and this was followed shortly after with Freya’s first with a great ball through and a finish into the top corner. Belle made it 4-0 at half time after collecting there goal kick from their goalie and coolly finishing in the bottom corner. The second half was similar and Izzi got on the scoresheet with a good left foot finish, Freya made it 6 on 62 minutes and was followed by Belle’s 4th on 65 and Sandra scored on her debut on 68 minutes to make the final score 8-0. The defence had a very solid look about it and the midfield were dominant. Good start girls!!

Sept 3rd – Friendly – Cleeve Colts 9 v 0 Gloucester City

Squad: Bella, Izzy, Emily C, Emilia, Meg, Emily D, Jemma, Georgia, Morgan, Freya, Izzi, Belle, Keeley, Ellie D

As there was no league game this week we managed to arrange a home friendly against Gloucester City, we were lucky enough to play on Bishops Cleeve FC first team pitch which was a bonus for the parents as they had a stand to protect themselves from the rain! It was a good game and a ideal run out for both teams where the scoreline was irrelevant, just a chance for the girls to blow the cobwebs away before the season starts.
